The 25 Anniversary Edition of Willow coming to Blu-ray in March 2013

I friggin love WILLOW. What a great movie. Back in 1988, LORD OF THE RINGS caliber fantasy was a rarity and WILLOW was the biggest budget epic we had seen. I remember sitting in the theater with my dad thinking that this was going to be the next STAR WARS.

In retrospect, I may have overhyped the movie a little, but it still holds up for me as an exciting adventure movie. I love Madmartigan and everything about the movie. Sure, it was kind of scary for a little kid, but it was also exciting. When the announcement came today that the film would be released on Blu-ray on March 12, 2013, I immediately looked to place my pre-order.

The fully remastered film looks awesome in the Blu-ray trailer and the chance to catch deleted scenes is too good to pass up! Warwick Davis‘ personal video diary is included as is an all new feature on the visual effects in the movie.

Plot: When young Willow Ufgood (Warwick Davis; Harry Potter franchise) finds an abandoned baby girl, he learns she is destined to end the reign of the wicked Queen Bavmorda (Jean Marsh; “Upstairs, Downstairs”). In order to protect the child, Willow must team up with a rogue swordsman (Val Kilmer; Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang) and overcome the forces of darkness in the ultimate battle of good versus evil!

Despite not being the massive success George Lucas and Ron Howard envisioned, WILLOW was a groundbreaking adventure that paved the way for THE LORD OF THE RINGS. I am very excited to see WILLOW next year and I hope it sparks a new interest in the movie as well.

Check out the full breakdown of features on the disc as well as the cover art below.
