The news I’m talking about is that LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD director Len Wiseman will be tackling an Atlantis project in the near future. Not just any project either. He’ll be adapting the comic mini-series ATLANTIS RISING. Now I’ve never heard of ATLANTIS RISING, and reading up a bit on the premise of the series… it’s not as awesome as I’d hoped. But I’ve got faith in Wiseman to make it something badass. Hell, LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD rocked pretty hard.
DreamWorks have decided to go forward with ATLANTIS RISING, which starts when seismic disturbances at sea force world militaries to investigate the deepest part of the ocean, where an underground civilization emerges to engage in war with planet Earth. That could be pretty damn cool, right? Eventually the series gets into the King and Queen of Atlantis or something like that… but let’s hope Wiseman doesn’t get much into that. I want to see how this underwater fantasyland works. What kind of creatures could be living here? Regular humans? Monster-like beings? And then seeing them do battle with mankind? I’m down!
Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci brought the project to DreamWorks. They’re producing alongside Platinum Studios’ Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. Randy Greenberg is set to executive produce. Wiseman is set to direct MOTORCADE first, so no telling when we’ll be seeing ATLANTIS RISING. We’ll keep you updated.
