Wolf Bites Sundance

Looks like another Aussie horror flick is prepping to take the U.S. by storm. WOLF CREEK, the directorial debut of Greg McLean, has landed a slot at Sundance in the newly created World Cinema Competition. The $2 million project draws its inspiration from Australia’s notorious backpacker murders, brought to you by real life creepy guy, Ivan Milat. While WOLF CREEK hasn’t gotten an Australian release yet, there was a screening in Melbourne that resulted in 2 reported faintings and 4 walkouts. McLean shared his opinion about what made the experience so intense:

“It is incredibly realistic, which I think is what disturbs people, and not self-referential like a lot of horror. It’s really doing people’s heads in, which is great.”

So we’ve got the Outback, a serial killer, and people fainting at screenings. Whew! I’m gettin’ excited like a virgin at the AVN’s. Considering the promise that WOLF CREEK seems to show, and adding that to the already impressive duo of SAW and UNDEAD, it’s clear that some serious horror mojo is brewing in the land Down Under.
