Variety is reporting that Wolfgang Petersen (THE PERFECT STORM) has jumped aboard an alien invasion thriller called UPRISING over at Columbia. The project comes to us from the producers of GLADIATOR and the writer of BLOOD DIAMOND, Charles Leavitt.
The story details aren’t many: the brief synopsis says the story revolves around the resistance efforts of some citizens after Earth has been occupied by a powerful alien race.
Petersen has had a pretty interesting career. Early on he made a couple of kickass flicks, DAS BOOT and THE NEVERENDING STORY (you know it’s true!), but really never recaptured that magic again… He helms big summer tent-poles for major studios, sure, but really, who gives a f*ck about TROY or POSEIDON? I’m a sucker for an alien invasion adventure though, so hopefully he’ll get back into the whimsically trippy territory he mined so well with NEVERENDING… Oh, oh no. I just remembered that scene with Artex and the quicksand… Ah crap, here come the waterworks…
