Wolvie 2 hires a writer

Just the other day, I let you know that Hugh Jackman was ready to pack his bags for Japan, as a sequel to WOLVERINE was gearing up and sharpening its claws. Well, the film just got closer to reality; according to The Hollywood Reporter, CHRISTOPHER McQUARRIE has signed on the dotted line to write WOLVERINE 2 (which most likely won’t end up being the title, but we’ll run with it right now).

McQuarrie has a pretty good resume. For starters, the man has an Oscar in his home: McQuarrie won the Best Original Screenplay in 1996 for writing THE USUAL SUSPECTS. In addition, he wrote and directed the lean and mean WAY OF THE GUN, wrote the screenplay for last year’s VALKYRIE, and most notably, did work on Bryan Singer’s X-MEN.

Not being a huge comic book geek, I’m not very familiar with this whole “Wolverine heads to Japan” business, but apparently it’s a highly respected story arc created by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller. The story is set in Japan and features Wolverine dealing with ninjas as he struggles whether to follow his animal killer instincts or the life under a samurai’s code of honor and respect.

Wolverine vs. Ninjas? I guess I have ZERO problems with that! Now all they have to do is make it significantly cooler than the (allegedly) lame first WOLVERINE. I will see that flick one day to decide for myself…
