As far as senseless remakes are concerned, the redo of Sam Peckinpah’s STRAW DOGS certainly tops the list for me. The flick, from Rod Lurie, does star James Woods though…that usually tends to go a long way right there. Still, much like LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT and I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE – while technically fine films – I don’t see the value in reliving the material. Going up against Nicolas Winding Refn’s DRIVE on September 16th, STRAW DOGS centers on:
David and Amy Sumner, a Hollywood screenwriter and his actress wife, return to her small hometown in the deep South to prepare the family home for sale after her father’s death. Once there, tensions build in their marriage and old conflicts re-emerge with the locals, including Amy’s ex-boyfriend Charlie, leading to a violent confrontation.
Alexander Skarsgård, Dominic Purcell, Walton Goggins, Rhys Coiro, Anson Mount and Willa Holland also play a vital role in the flick.
