Writer chats IT remake

One of my favorite Stephen King books of all time is IT. I’ve read it twice, and while that’s a small number, it’s a really flippin’ long book, so I feel quite accomplished with having read it just a couple of times. The made for TV version scared the bejesus out of me when I was 12, but the last time I sat down to watch it I was more bored than scared. Which is why I’m all for the retelling of the King classic to the big screen.

The boys over at Dread Central scored a chat with IT remake writer Dave Kajganich about what we can expect from the revamp, and what he had to say will likely excite the shite out of you: …this will not be PG-13. This will be R. Which means we can really honor the book and engage with the traumas (both the paranormal ones and those they deal with at home and school) that these character endure.

Hear that? R, baby, this sucker is gonna be R! No more made for TV and it’s weaksauce PG rating–we’re talking R people, the way it was meant to be seen! This is great, great news! Kajganich also talked about the process of bringing the story to a single motion picture, and the challenges he’s facing cutting the story down.

While I love every part of the book, cutting out a few scenes here and there to fit it all into one movie is by far the way to go. As it is, the TV version is way too long… and even that one left some stuff out!
