Writer Mark Smith talks Martyrs remake & Christian Bale revenge flick

Way back in March 2009 we were told that a remake of Pascal Laugier’s critically acclaimed French film MARTYRS was on the way. Well folks it’s over a year later and just now are we getting somewhat of an update for the unwanted remake.

The guys over at Bloody-Disgusting recently caught up with scribe Mark L. Smith to ask him about the untited project he’s working on with Platinum Dunes. Instead of talking about that film, Smith instead spilled some details on four other films! Count em, four! Bet you weren’t expecting that. One of said films was the MARTYRS remake:

“….Martyrs… a remake of the French horror film that I wrote for Wyck Godfrey (Temple/Hill) who’s producing the Twilight films among others.”

Alright. Now before we get into an uproar that a TWILIGHT producer is tackling the MARTYRS remake, let’s take a step back first. There’s no way they’re going to try and water this down, they just can’t… so let’s not worry about shite like that. Instead let’s worry about the fact that this thing is getting made in the first place…. Is there anyone out there that’s actually excited for this? Please hit us with your opinions below and let us know why!

Smith also talks about an upcoming project he’s doing for Anonymous Content. It’s a period action/revenge piece and already has THE ROAD’s John Hillcoat directing! And get this, none other than Christian Bale is in talks to star! Christian Bale starring in a revenge flick from THE ROAD director? Yes please!

The writer also spills on a couple other projects: A thriller called TROUBLE and a flick he’s working on with Patrick Tatopoulos. Nothing really juicy is given away but if you want to see what he had to say regarding those projects you can head right over HERE.

So now that a script is finished hopefully we hear more regarding this MARTYRS remake soon. As always, be sure to keep it here for updates.
