Check out Horror Junk to see an interview with Joe Lynch, director of the upcoming WRONG TURN 2. Most of the video is two dudes sitting on a couch drinking beer (dunno if you’ve ever seen that before) but they’re obviously fans of the genre, and were able to get off the couch long enough to have a face-to-face with Lynch at Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors (doubt I’d be able to do the same).
Lynch, who seems like a very animated guy, explains that while the first WRONG TURN was an homage to 70s horror flicks like TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and THE HILLS HAVE EYES, WRONG TURN 2 draws inspiration from, in his words, “80s splatter sequels,” like EVIL DEAD 2, TEXAS CHAINSAW 2, and PHANTASM 2. If you like those movies, you’ll like WT2. Hells yes, I say!!
I think he’s going about it the right way. Lynch isn’t pretentiously claiming to create an entire new world with his movie, but rather he’s fully acknowledging the splattery, wacky history of horror sequels (he confirms that it’s very much a direct sequel to the first one). Seems like it’ll be a bloody good time, can’t wait to check it out.
