X-MEN: APOCALYPSE doesn't hit theaters until next year, but apparently Fox may already be getting the ball rolling on the sequel. During an interview with Journal De Montreal, Mel's Studio head Michel Trudel revealed that director Bryan Singer and company will return to the offices of the Montreal-based production house in November of 2016, and that principal photography on the follow-up will kick off in early 2017.

Trudel told the site that "It was a miracle that we managed to attract an X-Men movie [DAYS OF FUTURE PAST] in Montreal in 2013. To convince Fox to return for a second [APOCALYPSE] and now a third is simply amazing."

If this is the plan, Bryan Singer is going to be very busy next year. Besides doing X-MEN: APOCALYPSE reshoots in January and making the usual promo rounds for the upcoming mutant flick, in September the filmmaker also announced that a 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA movie will be his next directorial effort.

As to when the sequel might be released, it could be the untitled Fox/Marvel film that has been set to open on July 13, 2018. The rumor is Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy have already signed on for more X-Men movies, so they'll probably be back for the follow-up, as well as some of the newcomers to the series, like Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler). While none of this is officially confirmed, who would you like to see be the main villain in the X-MEN: APOCALYPSE sequel?

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE is due out on May 27, 2016.
