Yellowstone 1923: Interviews with James Badge Dale, Marley Shelton & more

Last night, Taylor Sheridan’s latest addition to the Yellowstone universe, 1923, made its much-anticipated debut on Paramount Plus. Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford star in this two-season limited series focusing on the Dutton family as they try to maintain their ranch during the turbulent twenties when the Depression and the Dust Bowl were looming on the horizon, prohibition was in full force, and the old ways of the west were coming to an end.

Recently, we had the chance to discuss the new series with some of the cast members, including James Badge Dale, Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, and Jennifer Ehle. While some of the roles are still mysterious, since only one episode has aired so far, Dale and Shelton, who plays John Dutton’s grandfather and grandmother, tease many family tragedies on the horizon. Meanwhile, Geraghty plays the family’s loyal ranch foreman, who, he admits, plays a role similar to Rip’s in the flagship show, albeit one that’s different in many ways too. Meanwhile, Nieves and Ehle have arguably the first episode’s most arresting (and upsetting) scene, depicting abuse at a residential school. The two open up about the challenges of acting out such a scene while teasing their arcs in the episodes to come.

In the meantime, check out our Yellowstone 1923 review. It really is another awesome Taylor Sheridan series, and well worth checking out. However, you should also make sure to watch 1883 first, as the show is a direct continuation of that series.
