Okay fanboys, here’s something for you to sink your teeth into until the next FREDDY VS. JASON and BATMAN BEGINS sequels, as well as the rumoured ROBOCOP remake/sequel.
Indie film studio Aviator Pictures, with a budget of $20,000, is in the process of filming a 3-way dance between Batman, Robocop and Jason Voorhees entitled BATMAN: DISMAL FUTURE. I’m sure you guys are sitting there saying, “What the hell?!” just like I was.
The man behind this project is Writer, Director & Producer S M Murphy, who basically taught himself everything about film. His main objective is to show fans and industry that a true amature can accomplish a high-production level film, with a sweet story. All within a 14 minute short.
The story centres on Batman in a not to distant future, where all of earth’s superheroes have been killed off, leaving the Dark Knight himself as the world’s sole hero. Despite his best efforts, Batman needs some help. Instead of Robin, Batman reassembles the discarded Robocop, and unleashes his new brand of justice on the criminal underworld. The film follows Batman’s hunt for one of horror film’s most notorious killers (Mr. Voorhees) and ends with a climatic battle with a surprise ending that absolutely no one will predict.
Now, with that build-up, you have to see how this one unfolds, simply because it’s like one of those crossover oneshot comics that Murphy has taken and turned into a mini-movie. BATMAN: DISMAL FUTURE is set for release next year.
