Young George Lucas joins CW’s Legends of Tomorrow

Wow. A lot of STAR WARS news today. But it's like Tupac once said "I didn't choose to cover STAR WARS news, the STAR WARS news chose to cover me" or something. It's been awhile. But either way, there's some truth to that dumb joke, as sometimes you're constrained as an internet film news editor to report on what's pertinent on your shift. And if it happens to involve STAR WARS again, then so be it.

Anyway, it seems CW's superhero, time-travelling, team-up show is either doing something amazing, or going completely off the rails. Here's the plot of the premiere episode:

Because of [a] time aberration…George Lucas quits film school…As a result, he never makes Star Wars or Raiders of the Lost Ark. As a result, Ray, who became an engineer because of Star Wars, and Nate, who became a historian because of Raiders, slowly start to lose their brilliance, because those things that inspired them to become who they are didn’t exist…[sort of] Flowers for Algernon with Ray and Nate.

Matt Angel (GRIMM) will be playing the young Lucas.

In fact, executive producer Marc Guggenheim told EW about an anecdote of him talking to series showrunner Greg Berlanti (RIVERDALE):

We were watching a cut of it, and I said to Greg [Berlanti] that [this] is either going to be the episode where we’ll say that the show found a new gear in terms of how zany it can be, or it’s the episode that’s going to get us all fired.

Hmm. Sounds like it could be fun. While I personally haven't been too impressed with the DC/CW television universe (and yes, I'm aware of their ardent fans), I might give this one a shot.

But what do you guys think? Any fans of the show? And if so, you excited for this particular adventure?

The episode will air January 24th, 2017 at 9 pm EST on The CW
