Zach Galifianakis has signed on to star alongside Ryan Reynolds in the upcoming “supernatural action comedy” RIPD for Universal Pictures. This should come as no surprise, but Galifianakis will play Reynolds’ “wise-cracking” partner, an officer for the Rest In Peace Department who has been battling ghosts since the 1800s (this should put Zach’s trademark beard to good use).
RIPD is based on the Dark Horse comic of the same name and takes place in a universe where ghost cops police spirits who aren’t ready to leave Earth for the afterlife. Reynolds stars as a murdered cop who is recruited to join the force.
Robert Schwentke is directing the film with WEDDING CRASHERS director David Dobkin producing. Galifianakis and Reynolds would film this spring before Reynolds takes off on his GREEN LANTERN publicity tour this summer. The former just wrapped filming on THE HANGOVER, PART II while the latter is currently filming THE CHANGE-UP in Atlanta.
