Zack Snyder on the similarities between Man of Steel and Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight and more

MAN OF STEEL looks like it could be the biggest movie of the summer. Zack Snyder and company appear to have something incredibly epic in store for us and this new take on Superman should be an absolute blast. Snyder has already started making the rounds promoting the film and yesterday was on Breakfast Television (a morning show in Toronto) to talk about his new movie.

First the director talks about why he decided to take on MAN OF STEEL:

Superman, I'm a bit of a fan so having the opportunity to work on Superman is a little bit of a dream come true. [It was] super exciting, a little bit of pressure but really fun.

Ever since Christopher Nolan joined the film people have been wondering if MAN OF STEEL will be similiar to THE DARK KNIGHT series and in the interview Zack Snyder was asked if people should be comparing his new film to Nolan's Batman movies:

Only in that it's a modern way in looking at the characters. Everyone's used to Superman in a way, maybe in your mind you say, 'I know exactly what Superman is.' We were able to say [with Man of Steel], what about this way of looking at him? We tried to make him more modern but it's hard to talk about him that way, in those terms. Everyone asks 'Oh, did you make him more modern' but what does that mean? We just tried to make him cool.

Before some of you freak out I'm sure Snyder doesn't mean they only wanted the character to be cool and nothing else. I think he's just excited to see how fans react to the movie and what he has done with the character.

Finally Snyder was then asked if any of the rumors about the director possibly working on a Superman/Batman film were true. His answer?

I haven't heard that but that sounds awesome. That's how rumors get started, I did not know that.

I'm sure even if he was secretly working on the project he wouldn't confirm it now but it does look like a Superman/Batman movie is not in the works at this time.

Starring Henry Cavill, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe, Amy Adams and Laurence Fishburne, MAN OF STEEL flies into theaters on June 14th, 2013.
