Zero Dark Thirty’s Jason Clarke in talks to play John Connor in Terminator: Genesis

In addition to some casting news, it looks like the fifth installment of THE TERMINATOR now has a fancy new title: TERMINATOR: GENESIS.

I haven’t really let the title soak in but I’ve never been up in arms over any title from the franchise. Just give me a good movie.

On to the other half of the news, Jason Clarke (ZERO DARK THIRTY, THE GREAT GATSBY) is in talks to take on the role of John Connor, “the leader of the rebellion against the Skynet artificial intelligence system bent on wiping out the human race.” I’m just going to throw this out there: Clarke was a great bad guy in WHITE HOUSE DOWN which is one of the best/worst movies to come out last year.

GAME OF THRONES’ Emilia Clarke is still in the lead to play Sarah Connor with Brie Larson holding on to what may be a distant second. I liked the idea of ORPHAN BLACK’s Tatiana Maslany for the role as well.

There’s no additional word on the plot. The only thing that Deadline throws out there along with the above said news is that “Arnold Schwarzenegger is also expected to reprise his signature cyborg role in a film that involves time travel into the future.”

Alan Taylor (GAME OF THRONES, THOR: THE DARK WORLD) is set to direct TERMINATOR: GENESIS with a release date of July 1st, 2015.
