Z.land takes over B.O.

The awesomely funny and 100% kick-ass ZOMBIELAND took the movie-going country by storm over the weekend and blew the competition away at the box office, showing that comedies with zombies in them are nothing to f*ck with when released in October.

“Nut up or shut up.” Taking its own advice, ZOMBIELAND did just that by debuting at Number 1 over the weekend with an estimated $25M! For an R rated zombiefest, not only is that damn good, but it’s damn impressive to boot! Nice job!

This is awesome for a few reasons: 1) not that it was needed, but it proved that zombies (once again) are viable money makers, so be sure to look for more zombie movies in the future; 2) R rated “horror” kicked the ass of G rated cartoons and PG-13 chick flicks–hopefully someone took note and will greenlight more in the future; 3) an original “horror” show took the top spot–again, studio heads, I hope you’re taking note; and 4) more ZOMBIELAND in the future? This last one’s just a guess, but since the film only cost around $25M to make, this sucker is a bonafide hit. Which means sequel (maybe), and in this case, a much welcomed one. Bring it!

Hopefully ZOMBIELAND will continue to dominate the box office next weekend as there are no horror movies being released on October 9th–and since people love themselves some horror for Halloween, and since the positive word of mouth is going to spread like wildfire, then taking the #1 spot 2 weeks in a row isn’t out of the question…
