In the past I’ve given Rob Zombie a hard time for all his “I’ll never do a remake or sequel” talk (to paraphrase), and – based on how impassioned those quotes seemed to be – I stand by it. Now he’s truly addressing the elephant in the room on his Myspace blog, where he’s been answering questions and posting pictures like a madman all year. (A new one can be peeped above.)
The latest question is: “Why Halloween 2? You said you would never do another one!”
Rob’s response: “Well, that’s true. If I said it once I said it a million times. When I finished Halloween I was so f*cking burnt out that the thought of doing another seemed totally insane to me at the time. I was done. But after a year and a half break I started to think that maybe another one wasn’t such a bad idea. I love the characters and felt that I had only just scratched the surface of what could be done with them. The basic story was out of the way and now the series could go anywhere. Seeing the aftermath of Michael’s rampage through the eyes of Laurie and Loomis was very exciting to me. So I came back and now we have a movie. Never say never.”
If I recall correctly, Zombie’s reasons for not wanting to do a sequel a few years ago were more of the “sequels suck and I’ll never do one! variety, as opposed to “I’m too tired to do it”, but whatever, I can buy his answer… We can all move passed it if H2 turns out to be decent. I guess we find out on AUGUST 28th.
