Paramount announces 4th Star Trek film starring Chris Pine & Chris Hemsworth

07.18.2016

Star Trek Chris Hemsworth George Kirk

J.J. Abrams recently announced the return of George Kirk (played by Chris Hemsworth in STAR TREK) in the next Trek film, and now it looks like Paramount Pictures wants to make this thing official! Even before BEYOND has hit theaters, Paramount has released an official statement confirming that work is underway on a 4th TREK film, and that Chris Hemsworth will return as James Kirk's father in the next installment!

Paramount Pictures on STAR TREK 4:

In the next installment of the epic space adventure, Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk will cross paths with a man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born: his father.

Paramount stated that the remaining cast is expect to return (sans Anton Yelchin, sadly), and that J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will be writing the screenplay. No word yet on a director, but J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber will be producing through Bad Robot Productions. This is great news for fans of the rebooted Trek franchise, as this shows some serious confidence in BEYOND, as well as great initiative to get the next adventure going. At the very least, this new cast will see as many films as the Next Generation crew did. The films thus far have been met with some mixed results, but if our review of the latest is any indication (check it out HERE), BEYOND may prove to be the most well-rounded adventure yet!

STAR TREK BEYOND hits theaters this Friday!

Prediction time!

I'm betting that further time travel shenanigans ensue, BTTF2-style, making things worse before they get better. In the end it somehow works out that the destruction of the Kelvin never happens, thus then closing out the Abramsverse timeline and returning to the original. And it all ends with a Shatner cameo.

I've enjoyed the series so far and am excited for Beyond and now number 4. Just curious as to what they do with Chekov. Recast or have him written out somehow, perhaps in some sort of heroic fashion at the beginning...

Kirk has Scotty push the engines to Warp 11 and goes back in time to destroy Nero's ship but when the Enterprise returns to the present time they find that the Federation is losing a war against the Klingons. I want the next three Star Trek films to feature Sean Bean in a red shirt. He plays three different Irish characters in each film and he dies a horrible death on screen at a pivotal scene in each movie. It would be cool if he said something like "I joined the Enterprise crew to honor my brother's memory" when he is first re-introduced and the second time it isn't even mentioned that he looks just like two other crewmen that had died horrible deaths.

Really hope this doesn't mean more time travel

Enjoyed the first film in this new reboot series, Into Darkness was generic, and Beyond looks great because--judging from the reviews--it honors the idea of exploring new species and worlds. If Abrams returns for Part 4 only to go back to where it all started, I'll be seriously pissed.

You do know Time Travel is a staple of Trek

However I'm hoping it's a Squire of Gothos kind of thing. Tralane or some God Like being, screwing with the crew and putting them in some classic Trek modern day earth scenario where they have to blend in and avoid calling attention to themselves. And George Kirk is just one of his illusions.

This is great news. Since Kirk's father's legacy has played such a vital role and presence on Kirk's own legacy, it would be great to see the two of them actually meet at some point in this new timeline and for Kirk to finally have some closure with the man who's had the biggest impact on his life.

And the intro scene with Kirk's parents in the first rebooted Star Trek film is still one of my favorite scenes of the two films. Just a great way to set the emotional tone of the film and what's

They wrote an early draft of Star Trek Beyond, but there is no way to know if that was any good.

Remember when Roberto Orci was hired to direct this movie?

Sounds okay, but I'd rather they do this Godfather 2 style and tell simultaneous stories set in different eras. Do they HAVE to meet?

Let me guess, the crew goes back in time to stop the first few minutes of the first Star Trek movie from happening.
