Sony & Marvel Studios officially announce new joint Spider-man franchise

02.10.2015

UPDATE: As a result of this news, Marvel has shifted release dates for a number of titles. Adjust your calendar accordingly! THOR: RAGNAROK will now hit four months later than planned on November 3, 2017 (from July 28, 2017). BLACK PANTHER, which was previously slotted for Thor's date, will be delayed eight months, going to July 6, 2018. CAPTAIN MARVEL will move to November 2, 2018, leaving INHUMANS to move to July 12, 2019. The two-part AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR: PARTS 1 & 2 will keep their preset dates of May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019, respectively. - PS

UPDATE 2: It's being reported that Andrew Garfield is out and that the character will be recast. We'll follow up when we get the official word, but it's very much looking like we'll get a new guy in the red and blue tights. - PS

In news that should come as a surprise to no one, Sony and Marvel Studios have officially announced a partnership that will bring Spider-man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the web slinger. Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films.

What this likely means is that the tenure of Andrew Garfield as Spider-man has come to an end. There is still the possibility that Sony will continue where THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 left off and work with the developing fictional universe that Marc Webb and producer Avi Arad had been planning to spin into a SINISTER SIX standalone and VENOM spin-off, but to make Spider-man work within the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe would need too much retroactive continuity to make that work. It would make the most sense for them to reboot it one final time, especially since their statement calls it a "new creative direction".

Kevin Feige made the following statement.

“I am thrilled to team with my friends at Sony Pictures along with Amy Pascal to produce the next Spider-Man movie. Amy has been deeply involved in the realization on film of one of the world’s most beloved characters. Marvel’s involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU. I am equally excited for the opportunity to have Spider-Man appear in the MCU, something which both we at Marvel, and fans alike, have been looking forward to for years.”

What MCU film Spider-man will appear in first is unknown, but with the new Spider-man standalone set to debut in two years, CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR is still a possibility. I expect we will find out more details in the coming days as this blockbuster news means a lot of Spider-man fans are very happy right now.

The new Spider-man debuts on July 28, 2017.

Here's the FULL Press Release:

(Culver City, California, and Burbank, California February 09, 2015) – Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios announced today that Sony is bringing Marvel into the amazing world of Spider-Man.

Marvel and Sony Pictures are also exploring opportunities to integrate characters from the MCU into future Spider-Man films.

The new relationship follows a decade of speculation among fans about whether Spider-Man – who has always been an integral and important part of the larger Marvel Universe in the comic books – could become part of the Marvel Universe on the big screen. Spider-Man has more than 50 years of history in Marvel’s world, and with this deal, fans will be able to experience Spider-Man taking his rightful place among other Super Heroes in the MCU.

Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company said: “Spider-Man is one of Marvel’s great characters, beloved around the world. We’re thrilled to work with Sony Pictures to bring the iconic web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which opens up fantastic new opportunities for storytelling and franchise building.”

ldquo; We always want to collaborate with the best and most successful filmmakers to grow our franchises and develop our characters. Marvel, Kevin Feige and Amy, who helped orchestrate this deal, are the perfect team to help produce the next chapter of Spider-Man,” said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment. “This is the right decision for the franchise, for our business, for Marvel, and for the fans.”

“Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios share a love for the characters in the Spider-Man universe and have a long, successful history of working together. This new level of collaboration is the perfect way to take Peter Parker’s story into the future,” added Doug Belgrad, president, Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group.

“I am thrilled to team with my friends at Sony Pictures along with Amy Pascal to produce the next Spider-Man movie,” said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. “Amy has been deeply involved in the realization on film of one of the world’s most beloved characters. Marvel’s involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU. I am equally excited for the opportunity to have Spider-Man appear in the MCU, something which both we at Marvel, and fans alike, have been looking forward to for years.”

Spider-Man, embraced all over the world, is the most successful franchise in the history of Sony Pictures, with the five films having taken in more than $4 billion worldwide.

Well, what do you think? Is this exciting news or what??

What can I say other than that I am completely happy with this. While Sony's "cold dead hands" seemed to have been thawed, and Spiderman will more than likely never completely be Marvel's cinematic property again, this is as good as it can get for us. And that good, is fucking great. If Sony is smart they will step back and let Marvel do everything for them and just make the money. In the end it doesn't matter if Sony's name is on a Spiderman flick if Marvel is the one who wrote the story and

Still hoping FF4 bombs and Fox steps up to the plate and does the same thing Sony just did before the Infinity War movies, way Silver Surfer and Galactus can be part of the cosmic movies of Marvel.

FINALLY

So happy this happened. Spidey has always been my favorite and ive been disappointed in how hes been handled on screen. Feige & Marvel will know what to do with him properly.
I dont know who they should cast, especially if hes going to be in his late teens like recent rumors are stating. Nobody comes to mind. And a complete unknown is a big risk for a franchise trying to re-define itself.
As for director: I really hope its Phil Lord & Christopher Miller (LEGO Movie). Marvel hasnt shone away

As for director: I really hope its Phil Lord & Christopher Miller (LEGO Movie). Marvel hasnt shone away from choosing directors whove recently made comedic films. Those two would be perfect for Spidey, imo.
Whatever the case ends up being, im beyond pumped to see him within the MCU.
Oh and for those thinking its gonna be Miles Morales: in the press release, they state that its going to be "Peter Parker's story". Itd be pretty dumb to reboot Spidey into the MCU and not have him be Parker. I know its shitty having a 3rd Spidey franchise in a decade, but this one very well can be the last.

One more thing.

If his Identity does get revealed in Civil War, please, please, please let his first solo movie be Kraven coming to New York to hunt his ass down knowing who he is. And cast Luke Evans as Kraven now!

Amazing News!

Let the cast this begin. Dylan Obrien, Josh Hutcherson, Anton Yelchin are my top three for Parker. I hated Garfield in the role, everything was done better with Raimi and Maguire on their first two films. I did enjoy the lizard though and Stan's cameo was the best of any cameo in a Marvel film in that one. Civil War is a great way to kick off a new introduction to Spider-man having to contend with enemies who are aware of who he is already would be awesome, they can just get down to business

I, for one, actually liked Garfield. I thought he was a great Spider-man. The movies kind of sucked, but not because he didn't play the part the way I'd want Peter Parker to be played. He was the right amount of sarcastic, emotional, nerdy, and charismatic that Spider-man is supposed to be... But, I understand that it'd be confusing to keep the same actor and establish a brand new timeline at the same time.

As far as a new Spider-man goes, I have no idea who can fill the tights... Logan

As far as a new Spider-man goes, I have no idea who can fill the tights... Logan Lerman is the only actor, that is still in the right age range, that comes to mind. But I'm not sure he's got the comedic timing to play the part. He's got some dramatic chops, but I think he may lack the charisma to play Parker.

Marvel's dominance is unprecedented

I think this deal is a testament of how influential Marvel has become and how far Sony has fallen. I personally loved Andrew Garfield's take on Peter Parker/Spider-Man and think it's kind of messed up just dropping him at this point, but it's understandable Marvel wanting their own spin on the character going forward. I think introducing him in Civil War only to have him reveal his identity leading to a standalone film is an excellent idea.

Fanboys, Avert Your Hard Ons

Congrats to Marvel for giving fanboys a massive hard on. But i really don't think we need to reboot the character again. Why not just have a great script for the third film and have it be a link to the marvel universe. Garfield made a pretty good Spider-Man (in my opinion), so why not just go with him. Note: i have avoided #2 but have seen part of #1 and thought it was pretty good.

Marvel gets casting right. They will find the perfect Peter/Spidey

I have faith in Marvel since everyone of their characters is played and casted perfectly. I loved Ed Norton as Hulk, but it was his own fault for leaving and so they found an even better Hulk.

Garfield was good but he had a shitty script to work with and the director was a hack. I think they need to go back to the Amazing universe and steer clear of the shitty Ultimate stuff they kept using for the last two films.

I thought Garfield was great as SpiderMan. Hell, ASM 2 was my favorite Spiderman out of all of them. But I guess I'm in the minority.

I respect your opinion and I'm sure there are others who enjoyed it but I would say you are definitely in the minority. Personally I thought it was shallow movie making not least because it was a blatant cash grab with very little imagination.

I sort of agree with you. I think Garfield was great as SpiderMan. I was also more emotionally invested in AS2 than any of the previous installations. The movie was pretty awful, though. Seriously, watch that movie again and marvel at how flat and forced each characters dialogue is compared to AM2. Hopefully the MCU Spiderman will combine the best of both worlds.

Wow... I don't quite get the hate here... I for one agree with you about Garfield. I think he was a better Spider-man than Toby Maguire was... As for ASM 2, I didn't hate it, but it seemed like they were in such a hurry to establish the Sinister Six that they failed to make the villains they did establish interesting. The whole story seemed like a watered down Dark Knight.

I don't like the recasting

What people seem to forgot is that, before any script issue that would follow, the ASM franchise's first problem was that it was a reboot that was too close to the original. Marvel Films also tried to reboot Hulk soon after Ang Lee's film with mixed results. Why recast Spider-Man when Garfield is already doing a good job? 3 different Spider-Man in such a short span is too much.

Something I'm wondering about is, since most of us know Spider-Man's purpose in the Civil War storyline, would Marvel really do that to this character so early in his appearance in this universe? Would his secret identity being out really be part of this series of movies at the beginning of their run? Risky move if so. Not ALL of his solo movies could be prequels that still have the public not knowing who he is.

Marvel is taking liberties with the comic story, and will likely adjust. i read a rumor and they had two versions of the script: one with Spidey and another with Black Panther in the Spidey role. either way, it's going to be a "new" hero to the MCU so i'm sure they've figured this out.

I prefer Dylan O'Brien over Logan Lerman

Logan can play a nerd well enough for Peter Parker, but he lacks that aura of confidence necessary for Spider-Man. Likewise, while we probably want to tone down the wisecracking a bit after TASM, that trait is still important to Spider-Man and Logan doesn't do wisecracking well. Dylan looks more confident and looks more the part.

A wag of the finger to Marvel for ditching Andrew Garfield

I loved Spider-Man 2, and The Amazing Spider-Man with Andrew Garfield. Garfield and Emma Stone were amazing together! I just got on board with them and now I get another re-boot with a whole new cast? Quick re-booting Spider-Man for god sakes!
Great another comic book series that Marvel can set on the money cruise control without any excessive creative originality put into it as long as The Avengers keep raking in dollar after dollar.

Cool to see Marvel getting the rights back to thier biggest charecter but I really hate the idea of just up and abandoning what they have been building for two movies. Even If the last one wasnt very good it just seems stupid to throw it all away. I would love to see them keep Garfield and continue that Universe rather than basicley putting all of us through yet annother Spideman reboot.

It does leave the current series dangling but I'm okay with that because the plan seemed seriously flawed to me. It was predicated on trying to fabricate their own version of the MCU using bad guys, not for creative purposes (as made clear through the execution of Amazing Spider-man 2), but for bank account purposes. If they were trying to copy the Marvel formula (and they were) then he may as well be at Marvel without the baggage that Sony created in said attempt.

Yeah, I'd like that too (although not in the ham-fisted way Sony were attempting it). Perhaps we will still get it under Marvel/Sony but just with different actors. I'd like to see Lizard done better at some point too seeing as I loved him as a kid. Did not connect with him in Amazing Spider-Man at all.

Wondering if they can sneak Spidey in for an end credits scene in Ultron now.

Actor doesn't even need to be cast. Doesn't have to say anything.
They'll make another million dollars doing that alone.

A Little Bummed

Not because I like the Amazing Spiderman films, but because I really enjoy having multiple comic book universes -- with their own style, their own aesthetic, their own 'universe' rules -- to watch. It's nice when a character is unique and one of the only ones of his kind; now he is simply one of many in the playpen. Studios CAN turn things around -- Fox is batting 3/3 in their X-Men reboot -- and I was confident that Sony could do the same (was also looking forward to a villain centric film in Sinister Six). But oh well!

I never thought I would see the day

Am I the only one that gets really anxious when I hear they will cast a new spiderman b/c I have no faith in their ability to find the right guy? They have yet to find a guy that can fully embrace the role of Peter Parker/Spiderman. Andrew Garfield was a step closer in the right direction, but still didn't satisfy the fans. I'm really excited, so please don't screw this up Sony!

This is huge!!! I can't wait to see Spiderman debut in the MCU!

Kind of sucks that Andrew Garfield is being recast though. The "Amazing" series of movies were pretty shit, but he at least got the characterization of Spiderman pretty good. Wonder who the new person will be.

I have to say that even though i liked the Raimi series, i don't think it should be canon. I want too see a green goblin look like a goblin, bring back Doc Ock. Loved both Dafoe and Molina in those roles. Plus the events in Spiderman 3 isn't something i want to be canon.

Getting pretty old

Do we seriously need to keep rebooting Spider-Man every few years? Lol I think it's pretty funny that sony knows so little about this franchise that in just 13 years they are going on reboot number 3. But in all seriousness why not just bring back raimi? Why not bring back tobey while they are at it? No offense to Garfield but he never worked as peter parker for me, so if sony is making BIG moves.....why not make the biggest and best move ever and bring back raimi so we can have some awesome

Meh. Spiderman is my favorite Superhero and "Spiderman 2" my favorite Superhero movie. Sam Raimi shot a beautiful movie in his own style. If Spiderman becomes a part of the MCU it's going to become just one more Marvel-looking superhero in an already overpopulated Universe.
I would rather see different approaches, designs and directing styles (see Batman Franchise). Now we're probably just getting more of the same.... And for the record: Yes, I think the amazing Spiderman sucked!

Holy shit, this is amazing. Hopefully Marvel can reinvigorate the Spiderman franchise.

I wonder if that is what JK Simmons was talking about before on Howard Stern. He is probably coming back as JJJ in the Marvel universe.

I just hope they skip over the origin. We have seen two origins in 10 years. Lets just recap the Sam Raimi intro in the credits and go from there. Have Spiderman be an established character when we meet him. Fuck the stupid people who will claim to be confused, this is

"In fact I just heard... [oh shit I can't talk about that]... that could be a possibility." --JK Simmons on Howard Stern

If Marvel can't get Raimi to direct then they could get Raimi to produce. Maybe they can convince Joss Whedon to come back too. The two of them could work together on a new Spider-Man trilogy with the Sinister Six and a load of guest starring MCU characters!

After the months of rumors, speculation and hoping, it's crazy to actually see the headline.Spiderman has always been my favorite, and I've only ever been disappointed with the big screen versions... it's great to see him (mostly) going back where he belongs!

They should just have Raimi's trilogy be the new canon for this new MCU Spider Man and go from there. With talks of bringing back JK Simmons as J Jonah, he would make for a good continuation of the previous Raimi trilogy and everyone and everything would already be established.

Marvel can redo Venom again (properly), bring in Carnage, Vulture, Kraven, Mysterio, and maybe perhaps Punisher as well. They should just do this instead of restarting all over again. Make this new Spider Man already

I think I prefer a new, teenage Spidey as a Raimi's Spider-Man predates the MCU and whilst Marvel could claim the events were happening around Iron Man...in the viewers mind that would never wash. I also don't like the idea of having Maguire as Parker on the count of him being 39. Even if he physically looks younger, he's an adult who would have been Spider-Man for many years, wiser and certainly big enough to hold himself up with the likes of Iron Man - after all, they did give him the keys

I want a Parker whose a kid and just in awe of these bigger than big superheroes that have suddenly taken an interest in him. I really hate the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon but they got that feeling spot on in the show.

Rumor has it that Logan Lerman is the new Spider-Man. If they bring back J K Simmons as JJJ then that will tell people to forget the movies with Andrew Garfield. They can bring back Rosemary Harris, Dylan Baker, Bill Nunn and Elizabeth Banks too. They don't have to say "The Raimi movies are canon": they can do what Singer did with Superman Returns and acknowledge the continuity of the first couple of movies and ignore the rest.

The Punisher should be part of Netflix Phase 2. Daredevil,

I could live with that...have Peter still at university as opposed to high school. No need to revisit the origin story - something I don't think was necessary anyway - see Sony's brilliant Spectacular Spider-Man animated series to see how they addressed that - with Parker already having been Spider-Man for a whole summer.

If they really want to knock it out of the park, have Spidey show up in Civil War like everyone assumes that he will, then have his first movie be him and Venom. Venom done right has always seemed like it would be ultimate.

J K Simmons says he wants to come back as J Jonah Jameson. He said he "heard" something. So let's make the Raimi films canon in the MCU and hire Logan Lerman and Spider-Man / Peter Parker and maybe Alexandra Daddario as Mary Jane and then have a new trilogy with Carnage, Electro, Lizard, Mysterio, Kraven and the Vulture as villains and have cameos with the Black Widow, Hawkeye, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

Identity Reveal

Here's what I'd do if I'm Marvel. Keep the new actor's identity a secret, put Spider-Man in Civil War abd when he goes to the court house and reveals his identity, the audience is seeing it too for the first time.

That would be great.
But unfortunately that seems completely impossible considering how many people work on a movie of this size. You just can't control every crew member to not post actor names on the web.

Good news. It's too bad Sony bungled their golden goose so bad though. I still can't believe they didn't just edit out everything after the funeral during The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and make that last 15 minute the entire 3rd movie.

I really like that sequence in Spider-Man 2 when Doctor Octopus was in the hospital and his robotic tentacles started taking control of him. Fast editing of each tentacle attacking, strangling, holding chainsaw, etc. - it really screams Sam Raimi but still fit Marvel universe.

If DC has any sense they'll put a teaser for Superman vs Batman tonight!

Marvel has just knocked it out of the park with this announcement. DC need to remind people they're still there and letting us get a quick glimpse of Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Batman and Superman in motion in a brief teaser is just the way.

Anyway, great news. Civil War will be awesome now.

The smart thing would be to make the Spider-man movie part of an unofficial Civil War trilogy with Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther providing different perspectives. Spider-Man needs to be hunted down by government forces because he refuses to register. I feel bad about Andrew Garfield. I think Marvel will lose a lot of goodwill if they fire a well liked actor in favor of a new guy so I hope either they can get either Anton Yelchin or Logan Lerman or else sign on Andrew Garfield

Anyway, I guess this means that whoever plays Spider-Man that he will be part of the Avengers team that faces Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War Part I as well as the assembled team that will face Thanos in Part II.

Oh and Spider-Man will obviously be introduced in Civil War as that movie won't come out until may of next year.

With regard to spreading Civil War put to Spider-man and Black Panther, I think its a good idea, especially as most don't want another origin. Re. Garfield, despite him being the best Spidey so far I think it would be a bad idea (though I do feel for him). He has been in (through no fault of his own), one average movie and one horrifically muddled sequal. Keeping him means either confusing casual viewers with a reboot or dragging that incredibly heavy baggage of those movies into the MCU.

I actually hope they use Spider-Man as a reason the registration act gets momentum. Imagine Simmons playing JJ, Whiplash style, stoking the flames after new kid on block Spidey is part of a super powered fight that results in high collateral damage. He won't be the sole reason of cause - the street level heroes like those coming via Netflix will also add to the feeling that these guys need to be held accountable - leading up to Civil War. Anywayz, that would be my take on it - and I still

@The_ConMan I think at this point it would be necessary to go older, especially if his introduction is in Civil War. Taking this route also seems to more 'forgiving' to fans. I personally would rather have Jake play the Early Twenties (22-25 yrs) Spider-Man and just skip the teenage era.

Wow, never thought it would happen anytime soon but better late than never. Kinda feel bad for Andrew Garfield though.

Great news but honestly..."have final creative control of the Spider-Man films" that scares me no end. Surely Marvel would not allow that. As for recast, to make it work... To explain why Spider-Man has not been around yet, I really hope they cast an actual teenager. He'll be new and it really will help recreate the feeling of awe when he meets established heroes like Iron Man and Captain America. Just imagine how good it would be to hear Captain America giving Spidey some wise advice and

Chriss pratt for spiderman

I know, i know he's being mentioned for about every role in the film universe and he already plays a part in the marvel universe but he would be perfect for peter parker/spiderman.

GREAT news and @gr689, really!? Raimi's Spider-Man 2 were cheesy vanilla?? And a not very good movie???? That Spidey movie was the best one of the five made this far. It was the truest to comic book adaptation and was damn near perfect!

Perfect how? By having mj an annoying bitch and nothing like her character? By having maguire cry through a n entire film? By having dc Oct as a redeeming character? that's all true to the comics!!!

I hate that non informed people claim that spiderman 2 is perfect, is it fuck. Its unwatchable these days.

Well from the comments here, it can be said that there hasn't been a GOOD Spider-Man movie & hopefully Marvel can change that finally after 14 years. I honestly did enjoy the 1st 2 but they have dated alot since.

Now Wolverine please!

Excellent news! All we need now is for them to chase Fox for the rights to share Wolverine!
I mean come on, Fox SERIOUSLY needs the rights to make X-Men toys again and cash in on them, so it MUST be easier than the Spidey deal having that leverage there!

Marvel makes money from X-Men toys and with the success of X-Men: First Class, The Wolverine and X-Men: Days of Future Past, Marvel has confidence in Fox. With X-Men: Apocalypse, Gambit, Deadpool, a new X-Men TV series (possibly as a spin off from X-Men: Apocalypse) and a possible X-Force movie in the works, Marvel is going to let Fox do their thing. Who knows? The Fantastic Four movie may work and then we might have an X-Men / Avengers crossover. But having Wolverine in the MCU would be

wonderful and rather shocking news

I never thought they could get it together.... Although when the news came out that 'the deal was dead' and then to only hear from reputable people that they are still negotiating, I figured that Sony would cave... and rightfully so, they fear their Spiderman universe as much as any Spiderman fan would... I really liked TAS.. But really only because it was different... different than the extremely cheesy vanilla take on superhero movies that say Raimi took for 2 and 3...Spiderman 1 I dealt with

I really liked TAS.. But really only because it was different... different than the extremely cheesy vanilla take on superhero movies that say Raimi took for 2 and 3...Spiderman 1 I dealt with it and was in shock and awe that it finally happened... If your old enough you know what I mean... 2 & 3 were just not very good movies...story was ba ba bland. So came along another chance with TAS and I really liked it for all the wrong reasons... well some of the wrong reasons... and I'll always feel that TAS is the best Spiderman movie story to date... it was better movie making and story telling, character development... And much much better casting than its predecessors... But I do have a particular fondness for the original Spiderman that will forever stay with me as did Michael Keaton's version or rather Burtons Batman.
Just please make sure Spiderman is skinny and lanky like Garfield at least.... and is still Peter Parker and not a different person altogether.
and please oh please don't fckn RUIN IT FOR A 3RD TIME !!!!!!!!!!!

hmm, wouldn't be a bad idea to continue from Raimi's version, even the 3rd one, but who knows they may pull a DOFP & try to eliminate the last 3.

"It'll be co-produced by kevin Feige and his expert team at marvel an Amy Pascal" it sounds like marvel will have a strong reign and get to introduce the character right. They wouldn't suffle their lineup around if it was only going to have the marvel name attached.

Yeah, I trust that they know what they're doing, and Sony would be wise to just sit back and rake in the profits (much like Disney). Even so, studio execs tend to have somewhat inflated egos, and after a couple of hits, who knows where things could go? I dunno, maybe I'm just calling the glass half-empty, but I wish it had been more of a clean break.

a recent rumor suggested that Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man will not be apart of Avengers 3. The Avengers 3 roster will have Antman, Dr Strange, and Black Panther instead. The same rumor also said Marvel was trying to get Spiderman in Avengers 3. All this would lead up to EVERYONE being in Avengers 4 (infinity War part 2)

again, this is only a rumor.

"a recent rumor suggested that Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man will not be apart of Avengers 3"

That's a very old rumor. Chris Evans and Robert Downy Junior originally signed on for six films a piece. Kevin Feige wanted RDJ to "cameo" in Captain America: Civil War but RDJ insisted that it be more than a cameo; he wanted top billing with Evans. Marvel executives balked but Feige got everyone to agree. Now Feige has done it again and he's probably working with the Russos right now to

Now Feige has done it again and he's probably working with the Russos right now to find somebody who will play Spider-Man so he can cameo in CA: CW. So what does this mean for Avengers: Infinity War Part I? It will probably feature Spider-Man plus the Black Widow, the Black Panther, the Vision, the Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Hawkeye, the Falcon and now probably cameos with Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and Captain America. I don't know about Ant Man and Doctor Strange. It really depends on how their respective movies turn out. Keep in mind that the Black Widow, the Falcon and Black Panther have been confirmed for Captain America: Civil War and the Vision, the Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver and Hawkeye have been confirmed for Avengers: Age of Ultron so it looks like they have their Avengers 3 cast complete now with the addition of Spider-Man.

I've said this elsewhere, but as great as this news is (and it's really, really great) I can't help but think this is a bit of back-peddling on the part of Marvel.
They don't NEED Spider-Man at the moment, and giving Sony all this free press and exposure only means that character will stay at Sony for a long time to come, instead of losing his value enough for Marvel to pick him back up completely later.

Do you really think Sony would relinquish Spiderman anyhow???
It would only be when Sony has drained Spiderman for all he's worth and 5x after that!!
Spiderman is free money to them at this point.... That's like saying, well I'll get a PlayStation when Microsoft buys it out from Sony...ain't gone friggin happen bud

They're going to be negotiating with Sony for a long time now, when Sony were doing extremely well at killing Spider-Man off as a property on their own accord as it is. And with Disney backing them, Marvel could afford any price Sony were offering.

Trust me, with Sony's current track record a little more patience and Marvel could've picked the rights to Spidey back up down the line for cheap and had him completely to themselves., Sony only have the movie rights, so it's not as if they can

Imagine how desperate Sony must be right now to even join these negotiations, Spidey should be doing so well that a jolt of life from Marvel would be irrelevant. Instead they're screwing him up to the point of profit sharing.

Either way, I'm glad Marvel has access to him, but I'd have been happy to wait for them to have complete creative control.

HELL YES!!!!

Can't wait!!!! This is huge. Introduce Spidey in civil war, then let him have his solo film(s), then bring him back in for infinity war. Just my initial thought. Also, there's no way Marvel would fight for this deal and then not give him the chance to kick ass side by side with Iron Man, Hulk, etc. He's GOT to be in Infinity War.
