In Columbia Pictures' The Karate Kid, 12-year-old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) could've been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother's (Taraji P. Henson) latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Yingand the feeling is mutualbut cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre's feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts the karate kid on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), who is secretly a master of kung fu. Karate Kid not about Karate...

I hate to be a nit-picker here, but the Karate Kid seems to have nothing to do about Karate. Some of the major differences that i guess the Studio hopes the American audience is ignorant to is that the film takes place in China, and is about Kung-Fu (a Chinese martial Art of many different forms). Karate is a Japanese Martial art (which has two major forms, Okinawan Karate-Do, and Japanese Karate-do). What's relevant is a studio's attempt at a remake using the popular 80's movie title to sell

The Title of the movie is so ignorant to it's own content that it actually turns me off of wanting to see it. although it has some of the same plot points ( young kid gets help from old master, while being picked-on; old master then teaches kid the ways of martial arts, etc.) But like 'West side story' is to 'Romeo and Juliette' they could have gotten away with naming the movie Kung-Fu Kid or something.
