Does Jessica Alba know the choreography for Michael Jackson’s Thriller? We might find out, as the Fantastic Four and Trigger Warning actress is joining the cast of Netflix’s 13 Going on 30 reboot! While Netflix representatives declined to comment on Alba joining the project, Deadline is confident in its scoop. Production for the reboot is already underway, with preparations kicking off in L.A. last month.
Netflix’s 13 Going on 30 reboot hails from Emily Bader, Logan Lerman, and Adeline Rudolph, with Jennifer Garner, who starred in the original film, executive producing. Brett Haley (People We Meet on Vacation) will direct the reboot from a screenplay by Hannah Marks (Mark, Mary & Some Other People).
Garner’s 2004 rom-com classic
Released in 2004 by Columbia Pictures, 13 Going on 30 revolves around the unpopular schoolgirl Jenna Rink, who makes an unusual wish on her birthday. Miraculously, her wish comes true, and the 13-year-old Jenna wakes up the next day as a 30-year-old woman. Mark Ruffalo, Judy Greer, and Andy Serkis also help lead the original cast. There is no word on whether any of them will return for the reboot.
Alba’s got irons in the fire
Starring in a 13 Going on 30 reboot would be a change of pace for Alba after leading Mouly Surya’s 2024 one-person army action thriller Trigger Warning. In Surya’s film, a special forces commando, Parker (Alba), returns to her hometown after her father’s sudden death, only to run afoul of a violent gang when she starts asking questions. While Trigger Warning didn’t set the world on fire, Alba has multiple projects in the works, including The Mark, starring Rena Owen, Jessica McNamee, and Tom Hopper. The Mark is currently filming in Queensland, Australia, and Salt Lake City, Utah. In The Mark, a spy mistakenly identifies single dad Ben (Hopper) as a deadly assassin, using the confusion to expose corrupt politicians. Now targeted by agencies and criminals, he must survive while she completes her mission.
In contrast to her action film lineup, Alba will star alongside Al Pacino, Anthony Hopkins, Andy Garcia, and Michele Morrone in Maserati: The Brothers. The biographical drama, directed by Bobby Moresco, chronicles the Maserati family’s journey from its founding in 1914 to its rise as a renowned Italian luxury car manufacturer, alongside rivals Ferrari and Lamborghini.
