24 revival: Fox discussing how to bring Kiefer Sutherland series back

Believe it or not, but we’re just a few months away from the 20th anniversary of 24. The action-drama series starred Kiefer Sutherland as counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer, with each season covering 24 consecutive hours in real-time. Audiences hadn’t seen anything quite like it at the time, and the series quickly became a huge success. 24 came to a close after eight seasons but returned several years later for 24: Live Another Day, a twelve-episode limited series. There was also 24: Legacy, a spinoff series that only lasted a single season, and Fox has also been trying to get a 24 revival off the ground ever since.

According to Deadline, there are currently “active creative discussions” about returning to the world of 24 with a new take, with Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn saying that there is potential for a 24 revival.

There’s still a possibility, there’s still some discussions with the producers on a take that we have yet to hear. There [are] some active creative discussions that are happening.

This is far from the first time that Fox has entertained the idea of continuing the story of 24. The studio was once developing a 24 prequel which would have explored just how Jack Bauer became Jack Bauer. There was also another project that would have shifted the focus away from counter-terrorism and towards criminal justice. The concept would have used the real-time format but followed a female prosecutor who “uncovers a legal conspiracy and has to work against the clock to save a death row inmate facing imminent execution whom she had helped prosecute but may be innocent.” An anthology series was also considered, but none of the projects wound up moving forward. Despite that, it’s clear that the studio is keen on bringing 24 back in some form, and it’s probably only a matter of time before it happens.

Would you like to see a 24 revival? If so, would you want Kiefer Sutherland to return as Jack Bauer?
