MTV News talked to Steve Niles – creator of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT – and found that, although we haven’t really heard much about the possibility of one, a sequel to the snowy vampire flick is indeed in the works. It might not even be too far off…
“There will be a sequel,” says Niles. “The script is in. I’ve been working on it with a buddy of mine, Ben Keita, who directed the last round of the online weirdoes.”
Niles goes on to say that the screenplay is based on “Dark Days”, which was the sequel to the original “30 Days of Night” comic. It tells the story of Stella (played in the film by Melissa George) traveling to L.A. to deal with more nasty vamps, and even gettin’ it on with one of them. Oohhhh….
The catch is, this flick is most likely headed straight-to-DVD, mostly because the original film did only “okay” business theatrically. As Niles notes, however, the DVD and Blu-Ray biz isn’t kids stuff. “We didn’t hit that magic $100 million, but I had a long talk with Sam [Raimi]… He called me and just said, ‘Don’t be too quick to judge this direct-to-DVD market, especially with the sci-fi market.’”
And that’s the real story here: Never judge a book by its cover… When do I get my Pulitzer?
