Remember 47 Meters Down: The Wreck, the third movie in the 47 Meters Down shark franchise that was announced back in 2024? After going quiet for a while, the movie has resurfaced with a significant update: the Motion Picture Association has officially rated it PG-13.
47 Meters Down: The Wreck has been rated PG-13 for “violent content/bloody images, peril, some strong language and smoking.”
The fact that it has received a rating is also a good indication that The Wreck is finished and ready for the next stage of its journey. There is still no official release date announced at this time.
The third 47 Meters Down movie follows a father and daughter who attempt to rebuild their relationship while scuba diving to explore a famous shipwreck in tropical waters. Things go very badly when their master diver has an accident, leaving the pair trapped and unprotected inside the wreck. With their oxygen running out and great white sharks waiting outside, the father and daughter have to find a way through the labyrinthine wreck before they become shark food.
So, yes, it sounds like 47 Meters Down is sticking to the basics: people trapped underwater, very little oxygen, and sharks that would really like to eat them.
The movie was written by Johannes Roberts and Ernest Riera, who also co-wrote the first two 47 Meters Down movies. Roberts directed both of those films, but this time the director’s chair belongs to Lussier, whose horror credits include My Bloody Valentine 3D, Drive Angry, Trick, and Play Dead.
Roberts previously teased that The Wreck would be the biggest and most intense movie in the franchise, the scariest of the three.
The cast includes Ron Livingston, Bo Bragason, and Sadie Stanley, with Gary Beadle and Pierre Bergman also appearing. Livingston plays the father, Larry, while Stanley plays his daughter, Natasha, and Bragason plays Marie. Livingston is best known to horror fans for The Conjuring, while Bragason stars in the upcoming The Legend of Zelda and Stanley starred in Karate Kid: Legends.
The first 47 Meters Down was released in 2017 and followed two sisters trapped in a shark cage on the ocean floor. 47 Meters Down: Uncaged followed in 2019, moving the action into an underwater cave system. The Wreck is taking things in a different direction by trapping its characters inside a shipwreck.
