65: Adam Driver discovers planet Earth in the trailer for the new twisty sci-fi dinosaur film

A new variation on man vs. dinosaur drops as the trailer of the new effort from the writers of A Quiet Place debuts online.

The writers of A Quiet Place, Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, bring us a new high-concept sci-fi film. Sony Pictures just dropped the new trailer for 65. The title refers to the time frame of 65 million years in the past, and if you ever wondered if there was a way audiences could get new dinosaur movies not associated with the Jurassic World franchise, Beck and Woods have found a new wrinkle to deliver it to us.

The synopsis reads,
“After a catastrophic crash on an unknown planet, pilot Mills quickly discovers he’s actually stranded on Earth — 65 million years ago. Now, with only one chance at a rescue, Mills and the only other survivor, Koa, must make their way across an unknown terrain riddled with dangerous prehistoric creatures.”

The film sports a very limited cast, with only Adam Driver and his co-star, Ariana Greenblatt, whom you may barely recognize as young Gamora from Avengers: Infinity War, being predominantly featured. The two are stranded amongst the prehistoric beasts and must survive the mysterious challenges of a Pangea-era Earth. Beck and Woods will not only be credited writers, but have both taken up directing duties as well.

65 is also produced by none other than Sam Raimi. Raimi and Zainab Azizi produced the film for Raimi Productions. Beck and Woods are also producing, under their Beck/Woods banner, alongside Debbie Liebling. Beck and Woods previously worked with Raimi on 50 States of Fright, the anthology series he was producing for the now-defunct streaming service Quibi. That show is now available to watch on The Roku Channel.

After the seemingly conclusive entry in the Jurassic Park franchise with Jurassic World: Dominion, the director and co-writer, Colin Trevorrow, had shifted the focus from the dinosaurs to other genetic-themed threats, citing a tiny window on creativity with a humans-running-from-dinosaurs concept as a franchise. While there may not be a plethora of ways to pit humans and dinosaurs together, having a notion of humans either time-traveling or humanoid aliens discovering a Cretaceous period of Earth is a welcome twist on the formula.

65 is due to crash land in theaters on March 17.
