Released on a monthly basis, every feature film in the Hulu / Blumhouse series Into the Dark has something to do with a holiday or notable date in its month of release. Or, in the case of next month's movie, it's a notable event that will be inspiring the horror: the fact that kids will be heading back to school in August.

Reaching the Hulu streaming service on August 2nd is director Mike Gan's SCHOOL SPIRIT, which follows

a group of social outcasts who are stuck in weekend detention and then confronted by the school’s legendary hauntings.

Gan wrote the screenplay with Patrick Casey and Josh Miller. The film stars Corey Fogelmanis, Annie Q, Jessi Case, Julian Works, Philip Labes, and Hugo Armstrong.

With SCHOOL SPIRIT's Hulu debut just a week away, a trailer has arrived online and can be seen below.

Every time it's announced that a movie is going to center on high school kids in detention, pretty much everyone instantly thinks of THE BREAKFAST CLUB. Going by what's shown in the trailer, it's quite clear that Gan, Casey, and Miller embraced the comparison.

I don't have much interest in watching a bunch of homages to THE BREAKFAST CLUB, I'd rather just watch THE BREAKFAST CLUB, but SCHOOL SPIRIT looks more interesting as the trailer goes on and we get the hint that these kids are going to have to deal with a slasher wearing a school mascot costume. That's a concept I'm definitely interested in watching play out.

Check out the trailer and see how SCHOOL SPIRIT looks to you.
