Although it was definitely on my radar, I never had the opportunity to check out Kidding, but it would seem that the Jim Carrey series has run its course as Showtime has elected to cancel the show after two seasons.

Kidding starred Jim Carrey as Jeff Piccirillo, a beloved children's TV icon who has performed as "Jeff Pickles" on his longtime children's television program Mr. Pickles' Puppet Time on PBS for thirty years. Following the death of one of his sons, he finds great difficulty in adapting to the hardships of life. The series was never a ratings powerhouse, which likely had something to do with Showtime's decision to bring the series to a close. In a statement, Showtime said:

After two seasons, Kidding has concluded its run on Showtime. We are very proud to have aired this imaginative, critically acclaimed and rewarding series, and we would like to thank Jim Carrey, Dave Holstein, Michael Aguilar, Michel Gondry and the entire cast and crew for their brilliant and tireless work.

As I said, I haven't watched Kidding for myself, but from what I hear, much of the central storyline was wrapped up by the season two finale, although the door was left open for a potential third season. Kidding served as Jim Carrey's first regular TV role after an absence of close to three decades, as well as a reunion with his ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND writer/director Michel Gondry, who directed many of the series' episodes. Are you sad to see that Kidding won't be back?
