VROOM VROOM! Hot on the heels of last year's surprise smash FORD V FERRARI, Michael Mann (who executve produced that James Mangold film) is setting up his long gestating passion project FERRARI, with none other than Hugh Jackman to star. With STX and Amazon teaming up on international sales, the pic is expected to go into production this spring. Mann has notably been trying to get this film made for years, with a script by the late Troy Kennedy Martin (who wrote the original ITALIAN JOB and KELLY'S HEROES) as his base.

As reported by Deadline, the film is expected to depict the summer of 1957 when Enzo Ferrari found himself at a professional and personal crossroads. He was on the verge of bankruptcy, his marriage was crumbling, and the pressure was on for the magnate to dominate the brutal Mille Miglia race across Italy. Sounds like powerful stuff! Following BLACKHAT's disasterous (and in my opinion unearned) reception, it'll be nice to see Mann get back in the driver's seat on a large-scale biopic that I'm certain he'll nail. Jackman sounds like exactly the right kind of leading man for him and I've no doubt it'll add up to a badass racing flick – although besting FORD V FERRARI will be a tall order.
