Jessica Jones creator Melissa Rosenberg to exit for Warner Bros. TV deal

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Warner Bros. Television has courted JESSICA JONES creator and showrunner Melissa Rosenberg away from the hard-hitting Marvel noir series for an impressive 8-figure-deal. As per Rosenberg's new direction, she'll be exiting Netflix and Marvel's JESSICA JONES after the show's third season, which has yet to announce a release date but is expected to arrive sometime in 2019. The Hollywood Reporter exclusively dropped the news this morning, stating that Warners outbid Netflix in what was considered to be a very competitive situation. With that said, it's also being reported that Rosenberg feels as if she's ready to move on from the female-led action drama, and is looking forward to lending her talents to new projects.

With her Joan Hancock now on the dotted line, Rosenberg has entered into a multi-year pact which sets her up for creating and developing new projects for Warner Bros. TV. BATWOMAN anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Before making the switch, Rosenberg will continue her work on the third season of JESSICA JONES, which stars Krysten Ritter as the superpowered, take-no-shit private investigator. Plot details surrounding the next installment of the series have yet to be revealed.

"All of my attention remains with the extraordinary cast, writers and production team of Marvel’s Jessica Jones, until the completion of season three," Rosenberg said. "It continues to be a career highlight working with my partners at Marvel Television and Netflix. We’re extraordinarily grateful to the viewers who have supported us every step of the way on Jessica’s journey, which is so beautifully realized by Krysten Ritter and the amazing cast including Rachael Taylor, Eka Darville and Carrie-Anne Moss. We have so many talented storytellers in every area of this show, who I’m honored to call friends and collaborators. As I look ahead after this season, I’m thrilled that I will be able to explore new projects with the talented team at Warner Bros. Television and push myself in new challenging creative directions.”
