Quentin Tarantino is set to release a novel based on the upcoming Once Upon a Time in Hollywood spinoff centered on Cliff Booth, and it will be published before the David Fincher movie hits Netflix.
The Adventures of Cliff Booth
Tarantino’s novel is titled The Adventures of Cliff Booth, which is slightly different from the movie’s title, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth.
It will be published on December 8 by HarperCollins, which is after the movie is released in IMAX theaters on November 25, but before it lands on the streaming service on December 23. Tarantino also wrote a novelization of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which was published before the movie’s release.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the novel’s logline reads: “The Swinging Sixties are long gone — but Clifford Booth keeps on keeping on…War hero, stuntman, bartender, cinema projectionist…with the occasional “clandestine services” for his friends…“
The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth
The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth originated from Tarantino’s scrapped script for what would have been his tenth and final movie. Pitt was very interested in his character’s part and asked Tarantino if he would let someone else take the helm of the project. The director responded that it would depend on who he had in mind. Enter David Fincher, who quickly earned Tarantino’s blessing.
In addition to Pitt, the film also stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, and more.
Tarantino’s Tenth and Final Movie
As we know, Tarantino plans to retire from feature films after his tenth movie. For a while, that movie was going to follow Cliff Booth, but he ultimately decided against it as he didn’t want a sequel to be his last. “I love this script, but I’m still walking down the same ground I’ve already walked,” Tarantino said on The Church of Tarantino podcast. “It just kind of unenthused me. This last movie, I’ve got to not know what I’m doing again. I’ve got to be in uncharted territory.“
For now, what that final project will be remains unclear, but he’s moving with his stage play, The Popinjay Cavalier, which recently tapped Sacha Baron Cohen to star.
