Mark Wahlberg decides to unchart the Uncharted videogame adaptation

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

UNCHARTED has been a cursed production. At one point it seemed to be on its way, with David O. Russell and Mark Wahlberg simultaneously attached. After Russell left, Shawn Levy came on board, with a supposedly awesome screenplay by SMOKIN' ACES director Joe Carnahan (who called it an "anti-Indy" movie), while Wahlberg stayed attached as Nathan Drake, the scrappy aforementioned anti-Indy. All set right? Well, if you read the headline, you know where this is heading.

So, in an interview with We Got This Covered (where they were talking about Wahlberg's upcoming PATRIOT'S DAY), Marky Mark said this about UNCHARTED:

As of now, no, I’m not attached.

I hate when actors are vague and try to dodge the question.

In all seriousness, I'm okay with this. I think Wahlberg is good in certain roles, but I've never really found him versatile or funny in a wry, sarcastic way. He can be great when playing intense (like in THE DEPARTED) or "goofy" funny (which mainly is him upending his "tough, intense" persona, like THE OTHER GUYS). So I think this might be for the best, honestly. But that's just me.

UNCHARTED, still seemingly directed by Shawn Levy, was supposed to come out in 2017, but might have to be pushed back due to the obvious setback. Which is only a setback if Nathan Fillion is unavailable (and let's face the sad truth: he's available).

But what do you guys think? Were you excited about Wahlberg as Drake? And now that he's gone, who'd you cast?
