SPOILERS: Spider-Man: Homecoming’s new costume to harken back to first issue

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Again, MINOR SPOILERS from here on out. So if you want to go into the movie completely cold and not read ahead, that's fine. The fact that you got this far means we got your click. Either way, you've been warned!

Now, for any real Spider-Man fans, the fact that the new costume will supposedly "harken back to first issue" should already be ringing some bells. I mean, wasn't Sam Raimi's version already pretty faithful? And even Andrew Garfield's AMAZING SPIDER-MAN films didn't stray too far with formula. Until you remember…

BAM! Web wings.

Apparently Sony Pictures had a panel at Comic Con Experience in São Paulo, Brazil, where they showed a clip from Marvel’s upcoming SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING. While the clip obviously isn't available at the moment, Marvel’s own Ryan Penagos recapped the clip on Twitter:

This confirms an exclusive scoop that our own Paul Shirey broke way back in May (which also predicted Vulture would be the main villain played by Michael Keaton, as well as the inclusion of The Tinkerer).

Not going to lie though, while I love me some Spider-Man, I'm not a big fan of the web wings. But I also hate web-shooters with a passion (I feel, as Sam Raimi and James Cameron did, that the big appeal of Peter Parker is that he's – while nerdy and smart – just a normal teen who's only real x-factor is the radioactive spider bite, not also making military grade weaponry with no money, materials, or know-how). So what the f*ck do I know?

Anyway, what do you Schmoes think? Yay or nay on the new costume?

Either way, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING will web-wing into theaters July 7th, 2017
