First footage from Stephen King’s The Dark Tower will hit in October

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Filming has just recently wrapped on production of the Nikolaj Arcel-directed film of the Stephen King series, THE DARK TOWER. This is one of those films that fans have been waiting for for a LONG time, and while the cast seems to be pitch-perfect thus far, with Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, there’s no telling how the overall story will fare. However, we will have a better idea come this October.

Entertainment Weekly’s PopFest celebration, the two-day event which will take place on October 29th and October 30th in downtown Los Angeles, will be the first venue to showcase footage from the film. You can see as much with the following programming highlights listed on their event page.

Programming highlights:

James Corden, The host of CBS’ The Late Late Show; Oscar-winning actress & director Jodie Foster; First footage from Stephen King‘s THE DARK TOWER; Emmy-winning showrunner Ryan Murphy and friends; live Anna Faris is Unqualified podcast recording; table read of a new episode from the cast of Happy Endings; a live musical performance by the cast of the CW’s Crazy Ex-girlfriend; live read with the cast of Bob’s Burgers; a conversation between husband-and-wife YA superstars Tahereh Mafi (SHATTER ME) and Ransom Riggs (MISS PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN); author of the Outlander series Diana Gabaldon

If I was a betting man, I’d say that a trailer would be the least of what they show at this event, and it won’t take too long for Sony Pictures to throw that trailer online soon after. Given the film’s release in February, I’d say 4 months ahead of release is a good time to start making people aware of what’s on the horizon. Whether or not they can deliver is another story! Here’s hoping!

THE DARK TOWER hits theaters on February 17, 2017.
