Steven Soderbergh brings The Girlfriend Experience to Starz in this trailer

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Christine Reade (Riley Keough) is a second year student at Chicago-Burnham Law School and a new intern at the prestigious firm of Kirkland & Allen. Working hard to establish herself at the firm, her focus quickly shifts when a classmate introduces her to the world of transactional relationships. Known as GFEs, they are women who provide “The Girlfriend Experience”—emotional and sexual relationships at a very high price. Juggling two very different lives, Christine quickly finds herself drawn into the GFE world, attracted to the rush of control and intimacy. Check out the juggling act in the trailer below.

As much as I enjoy the directorial stylings of Steven Soderbergh, 2009’s THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE was not one of my favorites. With that said, I thought the subject matter was fascinating and I’ll bet it makes a better show than a film. Soderbergh is only executive producing this Starz effort, but it has all the makings for solid character-driven TV.

The Girlfriend Experience hits Starz on Sunday, April 10th.
