The trailer for The Cobbler presents an Adam Sandler movie worth seeing

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

I don’t usually do this, but I want you to read the synopsis first for THE COBBLER starring Adam Sandler, Dustin Hoffman, Clifford Smith (aka Method Man), Ellen Barkin, Melonie Diaz, and Steve Buscemi before I say anything else about the movie.

Sandler to exhibit his endearing and selfless boyish charm, taking him on a voyage of self-discovery and learning the importance of family via the magic of “walking a mile in another man’s shoes.” A journey that results not only in changing himself, but the world around him.

Yeah, that sounds exactly like a generic Adam Sandler movie like CLICK or BEDTIME STORIES and something we should all immediately dismiss. But, partnering with acclaimed director Thomas McCarthy (THE STATION AGENT, THE VISITOR) may be the best decision Adam Sandler could have made for his career. THE COBBLER looks good.

Yeah, I know, I was as shocked as you are to read that. But, this international trailer for THE COBBLER showcases what looks like a heartwarming comedy that doesn’t aim for the lowest common denominator rather than playing to Sandler’s strengths as both a comedian and an actor to give a movie that actually says something rather than just make fart noises and dick jokes.

THE COBBLER premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival alongside Jason Reitman‘s MEN, WOMEN, and CHILDREN which did not garner the acclaim it was expected to. Sandler’s dour turn in that film went to far into the dramatic, but hopefully THE COBBLER balances those sides out and lives up to this well made trailer.

THE COBBLER currently has no domestic release date.
