This should come as little surprise to anyone who follows the show, but AMC has decided to renew The Walking Dead for a sixth season, despite season five just starting up this Sunday. Ratings for the show have been snowballing since Frank Darabont started it up back in October of 2010 and they don't show any signs of slowing down. Given that popularity is at an all time high, we're bound to see much more of The Walking Dead, especially with the possibility of a companion series coming as soon as next year.

Here's the cast and crew talking up season 5:

While the quality of the show has arguably wavered after its stellar first season, each new season is a chance to let some brilliant writing, character development and scares take hold. As long as they don't lose sight of the characters, they're on the right track. I'm not even opposed to a companion series as long as they don't rehash what we've seen thus far with our main group of characters.

Season 5 of The Walking Dead premiers on AMC this Sunday at 9 PM ET/PT.
