Utah, give me two!

AMC was previously reported to be developing a new TV series based on the 1991 action film, Point Break. The original movie starred Patrick Swayze at his height of fame and Keanu Reeves on the rise. The cast also included Lori Petty and Gary Busey. The movie focused on an F.B.I. Agent who goes undercover to catch a gang of surfers who may be bank robbers. Beloved by scores of fans, Point Break is a quintessential ’90s action classic, renowned for its unforgettable tension, style, and iconic imagery. Alcon owns the property and (when you don’t count the remake) the company proclaims to AMC, “Give me two!” with this new incarnation of the title.

Endless Summer

The Ex-Presidents will get to continue their endless summer as The Hollywood Reporter reveals that AMC has now given an official greenlight to the show. The Alcon Television Group will be the lead studio on the show, and both AMC Studios and StudioCanal are on the project as co-producers. Dave Kalstein (NCIS: Los Angeles, Treadstone) and Christopher C. Rogers (Sugar, AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire) will be co-showrunners on the series. It is said that AMC’s upcoming series is set 35 years after the events of the original film and focuses on a dangerous heist crew with ties to Bodhi’s former bank-robbing surfer gang.

The series is set to air on AMC, as well as stream on AMC+ in the U.S. and Canada. StudioCanal will be handling the worldwide sales. The production is scheduled to commence in early 2027. Details of casting or characters are not yet known.

Statements from the Studios

Dan McDermott, chief content officer of AMC Global Media and president of AMC Studios, has stated, “Start with one of the most entertaining and unforgettable action films ever made, add a powerhouse creative team and producing partners, massive fan interest that has been clear from the moment we announced the series was in development and you get a greenlight we could not be more excited about. Dave Kalstein and Chris Rogers have created a story and characters that honor the legacy of the film and will bring a new generation of Ex-Presidents to the world.”

Showrunners Kalstein and Rogers also made a statement, Point Break was the movie that rocked our worlds forever. It was this wild cinematic sermon on friendship, outlaws, and spirituality that struck our souls. As we got older, we realized it hit millions of people the same way. Point Break is more than just a movie—it’s a way of looking at the world.  We are so honored to be carrying this legacy forward with Alcon, AMC, and StudioCanal. We’re putting together a series that will inspire audiences everywhere to seek The Ultimate.”
