Nope, it is not April 1st. This is real, people. We must be scraping the bottom of the barrel because it looks like a movie version of TETRIS is actually coming to a theater near you. Threshold Entertainment, who produced Paul W.S. Anderson‘s MORTAL KOMBAT, are developing the film based on the puzzle game alongside the Tetris Company in what they are calling an “epic scifi adventure”.
I won’t even explain what Tetris is because no one in the world is not familiar with the classic video game featuring shaped blocks that must be positioned just so in order to score points. There is no narrative structure to the game and nothing resembling a plot that would warrant a film, but Tetris Company director Henk Rogers seems confident. He issued this statement.
“We look forward to partnering with Threshold Entertainment to reimagine that common experience [of playing Tetris] and bring a spectacular new Tetris universe to the big screen. In this new universe, as you’ll soon find out, there’s much more to Tetris than simply clearing lines.”
Games like BATTLESHIP have been adapted in the past, but even with that game there was a naval theme that could be changed into a screenplay. What the hell is TETRIS going to be?
