Tom Hiddleston will star in Legendary’s King Kong film Skull Island

Legendary surprised everyone at this year's SDCC panel with the reveal of a brand new King Kong flick. Given the success of GODZILLA, it may have seemed like a no brainer, but a welcome one nonetheless. With the amount of effects work films like these tend to have, the team in front of and behind the camera can only stay hidden for so long, and we've got a hell of a name to kick SKULL ISLAND off. Legendary just announced that Loki himself, Tom Hiddleston, will star with Jordan Vogt-Roberts (THE KINGS OF SUMMER) attached to direct.

Here's what Legendary had to say about SKULL ISLAND back at SDCC:

Previous works have touched on the island, but staying and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions.

With Hiddleston stealing every scene away from the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Samuel L. Jackson, his casting choice is sure to get people fired up. Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, on the other hand, probably not so much. While not suggestive of the experience most studios warrant for a picture of this scale, it's easy to forget that Gareth Edwards excelled in low-budget ambiance before given the reigns of the King of the Monsters. With PACIFIC RIM 2 and GODZILLA 2 eventually making their way to screens, Legendary Pictures is looking to dominate screens with titans we love to see terrorize. Sounds like fun to me!

SKULL ISLAND, starring the enigmatic Tom Hiddleston, will hit theaters on November 4, 2016.

It's okay, Kong. I feel the same way about snakes.
