Least surprising news of the day: Plans for The Purge 2 already in the works

The Purge

Before the full weekend box office report was released I saw that THE PURGE had pulled in over $16 million alone on Friday and instantly thought to myself, "How long is it going to be before a sequel is announced?" Well today I got my answer. The Wrap is reporting that Universal and Blumhouse Productions are already developing a sequel to the surprise hit. Blumhouse also essentially tweeted the same thing from their Twitter account:

Jason Blum (head of Blumhouse) has apparently already applied for California's Film and Television Credit program for THE PURGE 2 so filming should start before the end of the year. At this time though there is no news on which (if any) cast members will be back or if writer/director James DeMonaco will return for the sequel.

I haven't seen THE PURGE yet but from what I've heard it's not a bad flick. The focus of the film seemed very narrow for what was suppose to be a nationwide purge but I'm sure a lot of that had to do with how small the film's budget was. However they should have more money to work with for the sequel and hopefully THE PURGE 2 will expand on the ideas from the first movie and move away from being just a home invasion film. If you saw THE PURGE over the weekend share your opinions on the film in the Strike Back below and also what you would like to see in the sequel.
