For fans of the hockey comedy GOON, starring Seann William Scott, Liev Schrieber, Jay Baruchel, and Alison Pill, you may want to start taping up your knuckles and put in your mouth guard, as Baruchel has been tweeting away about a follow-up to the indie hit.  Directed by Michael Dowse, the film was based on the book, Goon: The True Story of an Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey by Adam Frattasio and Doug Smith.  Smith is the character basis for Scott’s character, an “enforcer” on a Canadian hockey team.

Here’s what Baruchel had to say, via Twitter:

Though I do feel the need to clarify something from the last article I posted, GOON 2 will be written by @jessechabot and myself… Evan Goldberg will be involved as a producer and we will all be working our asses off to make as awesome a flick as possible… Please know this: GOON is pretty close to sacred for all of us involved and we would only be entertaining the idea of continuing the saga if we were all equally convinced that Doug, Laflamme, Stevesy, the Russians, Rolie, Ogilvy Belchy and Eva were only getting started… We will give them and you guys the epic, violent, heartfelt awesomeness that is not just deserved but required. HIGH. LAND. ERS.

So, there you have it.  I recently watched GOON on Netflix and loved it.  I went into it expecting a silly movie that might have a few outlandishly funny moments, but it turned out to be a warm-hearted and brutal comedy with style (crazy combination, I know).  It’s actually the best thing I’ve seen Scott in, as it’s one of the few roles he isn’t playing Stifler from AMERICAN PIE.

No start date for production has been announced, but the intent to deliver another chapter of GOON is one I can stand behind.  More as this develops.

Also, thanks for this, Alison Pill!
