Even after the debacle that was the David E. Kelley/Adrianne Palicki WONDER WOMAN series, another network is trying to adapt the comic for television, but with a twist.

The CW, the home of SMALLVILLE and the upcoming ARROW, is looking at a Wonder Woman origin series, according to Vulture. The series comes from writer Allen Heinberg who has worked on GREY’S ANATOMY and THE OC. The show is in the very early stages but it appears that the series will not feature Wonder Woman in the trademark outfit we all know.

According to Vulture’s sources. the new take on the comic book crime fighter will focus on Wonder Woman as a young, budding superhero, rather than a fully formed defender of liberty. (Think Smallville, but instead of a “no tights, no flights” rule, this show might have a “no bracelets, no crown” mandate.)”

While I still am holding out hope for a Wonder Woman feature film, I would think that DC and Warner Bros are holding out until JUSTICE LEAGUE to see how audiences react to the character. This being an origin, much like ARROW, does not prohibit a film from being made. SMALLVILLE did pretty well and SUPERMAN RETURNS had no connection to it whatsoever.

In the end, a unique take on the character may be just what is needed. I mean, it can’t be as bad as this:
