According to KICK ASS 2: BALLS TO THE WALL director Jeff Wadlow’s Twitter, the rubber-faced comedian has officially joined the cast of the sequel as Colonel Stars.  It was rumored that the studio was courting Carrey for the role, but nothing solid has hit until now.  The role would see Carrey as the leader of ‘Justice Forever,” which is naturally a hybrid “superhero” group akin to The Avengers or Justice League only set in the KICK ASS universe.

Having read the comics, I find this to be a very interesting choice for Carrey since Colonel Stars isn’t funny.  At all.  He’s the straight-laced leader of the group, albeit a bit crazy and violent, which is not the usual shtick for the comedian.  Given that this is hard-R territory, I’m actually pretty stoked to see Carrey in this role. It beats the shit out of him dancing with penguins and may well reinvigorate the actor to take some more risks and get out there some more.

KICK ASS 2: BALLS TO THE WALL also stars Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Lyndy Fonseca, John Leguizamo, Donald Fiason, Morris Chestnut, Lindy Booth, and Yancy Butler gets bloody on June 28, 2013.
