Last year in an interview with Rolling Stone, Eddie Murphy expressed interest in taking BEVERLY HILLS COP from the big screen to the small one. Turning the property into a television series was brought up due to the fact that the ideas for a feature film seemed forced, and none of the plots explored were of interest.

Murphy said this about a possible premise, as well as his own involvement, “What I’m trying to do now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley’s son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit. I’d do the pilot, show up here and there. None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force the premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn’t be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong.” You gotta give him credit for wanting the right thing for the franchise, but is a television series with Foley’s son as the star a good idea?

The actor is now receiving some much needed help from THE SHIELD creator, Shawn Ryan. It’s being said that the two, along with Sony Pictures are currently pitching to a variety of networks. Vulture insiders say that the series is being designed as, “a buddy cop show, that will be an hour-long crime procedural with strong comedic elements.” Murphy will show up in the plot, and a few special episodes down the road.

Does a BEVERLY HILLS COP series sound appealing?

I had to…
