Uncharted fans, prepare to be overwhelmed, underwhelmed, or just plain whelmed.
The adaptation of UNCHARTED: DRAKE’S FORTUNE will be written by NATIONAL TREASURE scribes, Marianne and Cormac Wibberley. Not a completely surprising move really.
Neil Burger (LIMITLESS) is no longer attached to direct the film. When the Wibberleys are done with their script, then the studio will look for a new helmer.
The first game in the series centers on, “Drake, along with spunky reporter Elena and gruff chum Sully, following clues left by Nathan’s distant relative Sir Francis Drake to find the legendary city of gold, El Dorado. This quest involves traveling through gorgeous but deadly environments and shooting lots of pirates, mercenaries and strange creatures.” While it would make for a great film, it’s had a bit of trouble getting off the ground. Everyone finally thought this thing might get made when David O. Russell signed on to direct and Mark Wahlberg was cast as Drake. Eventually, Russell dropped and not too long after Wahlberg took off as well. Burger was tapped to direct, and now that’s not happening.
Perhaps with some fresh meat on the script something might happen. Who knows. I doubt anyone is holding their breath.
