These two new Skyfall trailers herald Bond’s triumphant return to cinemas

Every time I see a piece of promotional material for SKYFALL, Bond’s return to cinemas shoots straight to the top of my most anticipated list for the remainder of 2012.  Every singly bloody time.  Everyone involved, from the cinematographer to the writers to the director to the actors to the composer, seems to have well and truly nailed it.

Now these trailers hint strongly at some serious shakeups coming to the Bond universe.  I won’t spoil it here, but the trailers very explicitly spell out some dramatic story events that will not only rattle every character you see but alter the course of possibility for any Bond films to follow.

How incredible would it to have SKYFALL become a Best Picture nominee? Do you think it’s possible?

Of the two trailers you’ll find below, the International is my favorite insofar as thematic/aesthetic/tonal structure goes, but at the end of the day they’re both superb pieces of promotional cinema.

See you on November 9th, Bond.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – it’s good to have you back.

Q: Less of a random killing spree, more of a personal statement.

Silva: Just look at you.  Chasing spies.  England.  MI6.  She sent you after me knowing you’re not ready, knowing you would likely die.  Mommy was very bad… The two survivors. This is what she made us.

Bond: Everybody needs a hobby.
Silva: So what’s yours?
Bond: Resurrection.
