Ike Barinholtz is Still Catching Major Hate for Saying Sylvester Stallone Only Made Four Good Movies

Nothing sets the internet off quite like an absolute take on a beloved Hollywood icon. Earlier this year, comedian Ike Barinholtz lit the fuse on his Funny You Ask with Ike Barinholtz podcast when he agreed with guest Seth Rogen that Sylvester Stallone has only made about four genuinely good movies across his entire career. Unsurprisingly, a clip of the conversation went viral, landing Barinholtz straight in the crosshairs of die-hard Sly fans. Here on the site, fans lit up both in the comments on the article, with one user even saying, “that’s 4 more than Seth Rogen.” OUCH.

You would assume a throwaway podcast debate like this would fade into obscurity after a few news cycles, but Barinholtz recently told John Cho (Star Trek, Searching) that he is still catching strays over the comment.

Catching Strays on Set Over Sly Stallone

While detailing the ongoing backlash to Cho, Barinholtz recalled a moment on a movie set where a complete stranger walked up to him out of nowhere and said, “What’s up, man? That was f***ed up, what you said about Stallone.” Caught off guard, Barinholtz tried to diffuse the situation on the spot, hoping to avoid an all-out brawl over Sly’s filmography.

“I Heard You Got Canceled”

Shortly after, his manager approached him with an even heavier bombshell: “I heard you got canceled.”

Barinholtz was instantly bewildered, running mental laps to figure out if he had accidentally committed a career-ending sin. “First of all, please don’t say that to me. It makes me think, ‘Wait a minute, what did I do?'” Barinholtz recalled, rightfully calling out his manager’s wild overuse of the word “canceled.”

John Cho Defends Rocky (Before Daylight Enters the Chat)

After brushing off the drama, Cho jumped into the fray to defend Stallone’s legacy, pointing out that a single emotional scene in Rocky makes the Italian Stallion’s entire body of work worth celebrating.

While Barinholtz conceded that Stallone is an absolute powerhouse in the 1976 classic, he could not resist taking one last jab. Bringing up Rob Cohen’s 1996 disaster flick Daylight—where Stallone plays disgraced EMS chief Kit Latura navigating a collapsed tunnel—Barinholtz joked that Sly’s performance in Daylight might just cancel out the sheer genius of his best moment in Rocky.
