The Wolverine may have found Jessica Biel’s replacement for the role of Viper

20th Century Fox is not wasting any time on casting Viper for the upcoming THE WOLVERINE. The James Mangold film is set to begin shooting very soon and casting what we assume is the major villain is a high priority. Biel was rumored to be the frontrunner at the end of last week and then yesterday we learned she backed out of negotiations. Now TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY actress Khodchenkova is close to nabbing the role opposite Hugh Jackman.

As previously reported, Viper was three different characters in Marvel Comics history. None of them were named Victoria, so this Viper could be a new version of one of these existing comic characters or rebranding of them. Viper was originally a Captain America villain had run ins with both The Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. Viper also went by the name Madame Hydra. Her connection to the X-Men and Wolverine came when she tried to murder Logan’s fiance Mariko Yashida. She then eventually blackmailed Wolverine into marrying her so that she could cement her control of a criminal organization. She and Wolverine did divorce eventually.

THE WOLVERINE will be primarily set in Japan. The rest of the cast includes Hiroyuki Sanada as gang boss Shingen, Tao Okamoto as his daughter Mariko, Rila Fukushima as assassin Yukio, Hal Yamanouchi as gangster Yashida, Will Yun Lee as villain Silver Samurai and Brian Tee as a corrupt politician.
