The last time screenwriters Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (BAD SANTA, I LOVE YOU PHILLIP MORRIS) teamed up, it was to direct someone else’s script in the form of CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE. Well now they’re back and ready to direct again, though this time it will be a script of their own entitled FOCUS that deals with “a veteran con man who gets involved with a newcomer to the grifter business. They get involved romantically but that becomes perilous in a business where they lie and cheat for a living. The complications of the encounter haunt them when they meet up again in the future.”
Bringing on producer Denise Di Novi (CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE), word is that Ficarra and Requa currently have Ryan Fosling and Emma Stone at the top of their wishlist for the two leads in FOCUS. Which, unfortunately for them, is no different from just about everyone else these days.

So until we find out whether Gosling and Stone will indeed be the ones to con and/or romance and/or further con each other, who would you cast in their stead? As much as I love Stone’s work, if a person reading this is at all connected to the production I’d like to volunteer my vote for Ellen Page or Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Because really, just about any project would benefit from having more of either of those two.
Especially Winstead.
